My piece “The Sun & The Moon” utilizes psychedelic swirls of color to push the idea of the flow of energy between partners and the unspoken spirit and confidence felt by those who choose to wear gear. This painting contains visual nods to NYC events that have been influential to me. The diaper, chastity key, and pup hood are all imagery I never saw at the beginning of the journey into kink. It has been healing to know that I’m not alone, there is nothing wrong with the way that I feel, and I’m allowed to celebrate the parts of myself that are different. I wanted the connection between the two figures to be soft, in contrast to the roughness normally associated with wearing gear. There is a beauty in the juxtaposition between the softness and tenderness shared between lovers and the rigidity of their costumes, rituals, and dynamics; themes I hope to continue to capture in future work.
