My art honors legendary styles and narratives such as those by Tom of Finland while also highlighting those of us who feel missing from that imagery. I wanted the connection between the two figures to be soft, in contrast to the roughness normally associated with wearing gear. In my piece “Have Fun Tonight” a figure helps their partner put on a leather tie before an event. There is a beauty in the juxtaposition between the softness and tenderness shared between lovers and the rigidity of their costumes, rituals, and dynamics; themes I hope to continue to capture in future work.
